I may not remember that as a baby i must have wetted so many mattreses, so many shirts, and so many square feets. The question or rather the thought that came to me is- neo-natal stage and Geriatric stage...isn't it the same?? When we are born, we don't have teeth. We don't have balance. We don't know what's happening around us. We need support to walk, stand, sit, and a little later, even help to do our ablutions. Cut back to the future...and we see the old in the same state. No teeth. They need support to walk. to even get up from their sitting/sleeping posture. They might just relieve themselves on the floor..or on your shirt...they are so helpless....a stage which you and i, both, are going to reach. Sooner or later. The parallels are too significant to miss. Only few of those who have pets, dogs or cats, would maybe agree even more . MY MISHA- she came to us as a puppy...12 years back....she was picked up from a fish market at kandivali, bombay. Lying bleeding on the road....as the fisherwoman got angry and took a swipe with her knife. She came in our lives....12 years back. Just on the 3rd day of our marriage. She took up all the space on the bed....and left us, me and my wife, with no bed space. Imagine, a newly married couple...not getting any bed space. Hahahaha. That pic of Misha seems just like yesterday. Those pushing/shoving/ moments seem like just 3 minutes back. Yes, she has lived a lifetime' wth us. Today, at the age of 12, she is old, she can't walk, she can't move on her own.....Just this moment, she relieved herself on the floor,in the house....ok, no problem beta....we shall clean it. That's what we said to her...coz she has that guilty feeling. Cut back to humans. Well, the question still remains. Can't we merge neo-natal and geriatric wards into one??? think bout it.
